A giant problem solved. Entering apostrophes in a database so words like don't and can't, won't cause an error any more.
I got into making Android apps. The use of an app to make blog entries immediately grabbed my interest. The Google voice engine does a superior job on my phone. That meant I could easily make entries to my online notebook, with my WebApp. The only problem being my normal speech used words like won't and don't also I use words like Jack's or the store's. The apostrophes always had to be hand edited. For big fingers on a small phone that was a giant pain. I have been working with databases for years and the apostrophe was never an issue for me. When I tried to 'fix' it it turned into a major issue. The reason it was so difficult is almost embarrassing. I had a very basic concept about database terminally WRONG. It was the word POST. I have always thought the term POST as putting the information in the database. The truth is the thought should be, POST is transferring the information from your form to the SQL script. From the script it is ENTERED into the database. I was trying to 'fix' the apostrophes at the point of entry. By the time they got to the ENTRY they should have already been eliminated. Oh well about forty PLUS hours on a problem that should have taken about fifteen minutes. All is well that ends well, I guess. Ha ha
